Great Demotions
I love to read about astronomy and astrophysics and especially like demonstrations of the incomprehensible size of the universe. It really puts life into perspective; when I’m feeling overwhelmed, remembering that the universe is infinitely expanding and that we are likely a part of a multiverse suddenly makes everyday stressors a little less paramount.
I decided to design some of my favorite space-is-huge-and-we-are-insignificant meditations in the style of the white-inspirational-quote-over-nature-photograph stuff that seems to populate social networks. But instead of “not all who wander are lost,” I included the type of quotes that make me feel better. Most of the quotes come from my favorite chapter of one of my favorite books, “The Great Demotions,” from Carl Sagan’s Pale Blue Dot (which is where the zine gets its title.)
